What You Do You by Sarah Knight taught me

What 'You Do You' by Sarah Knight taught me

I have to admit, I’m not really one for self-help books. Not in the traditional sense anyway. But when The Life-Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F*ck came out, I got on board. And let it subtly change my life. Even now, I credit that book for helping me give less f*cks about things that don’t really matter to me. And helping me save my time and energy for the things that do. So when I saw that a third one had been released, You Do You by Sarah KnightI was in.

With her first book, Sarah Knight became our favourite anti-guru by unleashing the power of saying no. In her second book, Get Your Sh*t Together, she helps us to prioritise the sh*t that you need and want to do. So you can achieve your hopes and dreams. And in You Do You, Sarah helps you to just be yourself and ignore society’s expectations of who you should be.

Which is something I think we can all relate to! Instead of leaning into who we are, we seem to fight it and listen far too closely to what society tells us. But You Do You helps to shake off those expectations. And help you start looking out for one and keep on with your badass self. Whether that’s your career and relationships or finances and family. Sarah is brilliant at drawing on her own hilarious experiences to allow us as the readers to live an authentic life. While battling through the inevitable embarrassments, awkward conversations and confused friends that are sure to follow.

So what has the book taught me? That I don’t have to change! It’s honestly refreshing to read something that actively encourages you to embrace the quirks that make you, you. And to do what makes you happy without worrying about the Judgey McJudgersons of the world. Has it changed my life? As much as the other books have. I don’t feel bad about saying no to things that I don’t give a f*ck about. And saying yes to everything that I do give a f*ck about. So if you need a little motivation to continue being the bad-ass self you were made to be, then give You Do You by Sarah Knight a read. You won’t regret it.

I have to admit the same: I never read a self-help book. But, this sounds great and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to this!

I have never read a self help book before but anything that motivates and gets you accepting your own quirks has to be a good thing x
