Now regular readers of this blog, and those who follow me on Instagram, will know that I’m all about living my life with the motto ‘treat yo self!’. And I feel like it’s even more important to treat yourself at this time of year. I mean, after the year we’ve all had. I think we all deserve a little treat to pick ourselves up. And while I’m fully aware, that money does not buy you happiness. Treating yourself to something you really want can help to life your mood and lift your spirits at this challenging time. So, if you’re anything like me, here are my thoughts on the importance of treating yourself.
IT FEELS GOOD
You can’t deny that treating yourself to something that you’ve been lusting after feels good. Like really good. Especially if what you’re treating yourself to signifies a milestone in your life. For example, every new job or promotion has been accompanied by me rewarding myself with something I want. Whether it’s a new watch, or in most cases a new handbag, it’s a small reminder that I worked hard for something, and this is my reward. It’s a also a reminder every time I use it that I should be proud of myself for how far I’ve come.
IT MOTIVATES YOU
Now while I’m totally OK with treating yourself for no other reason than you want to. After all, you don’t always need a reason to justify a treat from you, to you. I also find that setting myself a goal and then the reward for reaching that goal. Really motivates me to stick to my plan. Whether that be rewarding myself with a new dress for dipping a dress size. Or a new pair or running trainers for completing the couch to 5k app. Knowing what the reward will be and the goal you need to reach is the motivation to keep going.
IT INCREASES YOUR WELLBEING
Now we might think that pursuing long-term goals, like climbing our career ladders or buying a property are the key to living a happy and fulfilled life. And while we all attribute a lot of weight to these big, life-defining goals. I actually think short-term pleasures could be just as important for our wellbeing. Now more than ever, being able to make ourselves happy in the moment is important. If that means treating yourself every once in a while? Well, then you do you boo. Because that’s the importance of treating yourself.
