Blogging and especially beauty blogging can be an expensive hobby. It’s hard and it can feel a little overwhelming trying to compete with the bloggers who seem to have a limitless credit card and endless PR connections. But over the years I’ve realised that beauty blogging doesn’t have to be about reviewing the latest releases. It can be about anything related to beauty and you can definitely do this on a budget. So here are my top tips for beauty blogging on a budget.
Keep your start up costs low
I’m a big believer that you really do not need to spend a fortune when you first start blogging. I’ve been blogging for over three years now and I didn’t start with a DSLR or a Macbook. In fact I still don’t use a Macbook. I only upgraded my camera last year and when I first started I used my iPhone to take my early blog pictures. You can pretty much start a blog with no money. Most people own a computer or a laptop, you probably have a camera on your phone and you can set up a free blog with blogger.
Beauty blogging doesn’t mean lots of new products
You don’t need lots of new products to blog about beauty. There are so many other things you can talk about as a beauty blogger. In fact, I prefer blogs that focus on other things rather than just product reviews. How about your monthly favourites, or products you’ve used up that month? What about your routines, these could be skincare or haircare based. And everyone loves to see a tutorial. If you want to see more ideas, then check out my 50 beauty blog post ideas from last week.
Subscription boxes are your friend
If you do want to review products then sign up to a beauty subscription box. Not only do these make a great post on their own as you ‘un box’ your Glossybox or Birchbox, but you can then use the products for future blog posts. Especially as most boxes contain at least one or two full sized items. Or why not search the sales for discounted beauty products and don’t forget fellow blogger’s sales. These are filled with great products that you can try and review yourself.
