Pre-holiday pampering

Pre-holiday pampering

As you may be aware, I’m off on holiday next week. Which means I’ve been spending this week and last weekend going through my pre-holiday pampering ritual. Now as you may have seen from my #HolidayHype post, I absolutely love going on holiday. Along with the planning, organising, shopping and packing parts, I also love having a pre-holiday pampering session. It helps to get me in the holiday mood and relaxes me before the stress of travelling kicks in. So here’s what in my pre-holiday pampering session:

Manicure and pedicure

Getting a matching manicure and pedicure is a great way to get me in the holiday mood. There’s just something really fun about picking out a bright summer colour to have your nails and toes that will look great with a tan. Personally I choose a gel manicure for both hands and feet. I love that the gel manicures and pedicures last longer than polish and keep their shine in the sunshine. The only downside is that you have to be careful when applying your sun tan lotions and moisturisers. If the cream gets under the nails, it can cause the gel nail to lift away – which is not what I want.

Wax

Now I think this one is pretty obvious but if I’m sitting in a bikini or swimsuit then I need to ensure my legs have been waxed. I’ve never shaved my legs, and had them waxed for about 10 years. I now use an epilator as there is not a lot of hair left on my legs, but if I’m off on holiday then I like to treat myself to a wax to ensure my legs are silky smooth and hair-free for my holiday.

Spray Tan

Now I have to admit, I don’t do this for all holidays, but I do love getting a spray tan before a break away. It can be so daunting having to get my super pale skin out on day one of the holiday, that’s it’s nice to feel a little more confident with sun-kissed skin. The only downside is that with certain spray tans you can’t get into the pool – the chlorine will strip the tan off!

And one for my next pre-holiday pampering session is The Moroccan Hammam at the Urban Retreat Spa at Harrods. I love the idea of having a truly relaxing experience before heading off on holiday and this one sounds amazing. You experience a body treatment that involves steaming, scrubbing and massaging your skin until it glows – providing the perfect base for your holiday tan.

I always like to get shellac put on my nails before we go away as it lasts so much longer than regular nail varnish.
