My mum and I share a tradition and that is, every few months we go and have champagne afternoon tea somewhere really glam, and a few months ago we decided to go to The Ritz.
Having never been to The Ritz before it’s fair to say that I was VERY excited, having walked past this building numerous times I couldn’t wait to actually go in and have champagne afternoon tea.
When you book afternoon tea at The Ritz you choose which sitting you want and you’re only allowed two hours at your table, but that’s plenty of time and the Palm Court is really amazing, decadent but not over the top.
Now I’ve been to a few afternoon teas in my time and The Ritz didn’t disappoint, with a selection of traditional sandwiches including cucumber and cream cheese with dill and chives on a seed bread, smoked salmon and lemon butter on rye bread and egg mayonnaise with chopped shallots with watercress on white bread. The scones were lovely and warm as they bring these out after you’ve finished your sandwiches, all served with traditional clotted cream and jam, but I have to say that cakes were just amazing!
My two favourites were definitely the chocolatey chocolate cake and raspberry tart, they also come around with extra cakes which included a fabulous pistachio and poppy seed loaf cake which was truly to die for! If you haven’t been before, book now, though be warned we had to book about four months in advance to get a table at the weekend!
